US Guantanamo tribunals ‘illegal

The US Supreme Court has ruled that the Bush administration does not have the authority to try terrorism suspects by military tribunal.

Justices upheld the challenge by Osama Bin Laden’s ex-driver to his trial at Guantanamo, saying the proceedings violated Geneva Conventions.

Of course, Bush doesn’t reckon this means they should be released or anything.

This documentary sounds interesting: America: From Freedom to Fascism

“The scariest damn film you’ll see this year. It will leave you staggering out of the theatre, slack-jawed and trembling. Makes ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’ look like ‘Bambi.'”

Generally purports to be a non partisan investigation of the structures of American government and finding much that is dubious and illegal. (Actually, this sort of thing is the basis of the thing I’m writing at the moment :))

One of the things I gleaned from the site is the notion that the USA has some kind of mandatory RFID identity card coming in 2008. It seems like I should have already known that.
