metal is brain food

Well, not exactly.

Researchers found that, far from being a sign of delinquency and poor academic ability, many adolescent “metalheads” are extremely bright and often use the music to help them deal with the stresses and strains of being gifted social outsiders.

The article rings pretty true, at least for my experience, especially the lack of self esteem stuff which coincided with the majority of my metal fandom. (Though to be fair there was probably a higher proportion of people unlikely to excel academically in the bogan circles I frequented… the article gives a figure of about 5% using metal as catharsis in this sense)

(Cheers, Robroy!)

I’m sure that’s true. Some of my friends are into all sorts of metal and are pretty on to it. 🙂

However, I’d say that equally about all music. e.g I’m sure at LEAST 5% of classical music lovers would be especially intelligent and use the music as catharsis.
