what sufism was.

Rumi oughtta be compulsory for anyone who says Islam has produced no great literature, or that Islam is a religion of war (etc)
Ok, I know sufism stands at a remove from conventional forms of Islam, but you get the gist…
Rumi is pretty amazing. The Coleman Barks translations, in particular, are exceptional.
I am particularly attracted to Sufi thought. It is somehow refreshing to read very brief stories written a thousand years ago which demonstrate with alarming acuity and great humour exactly how one is kidding oneself right now.
