Poll # 6: silly/scary

Poll: which of the below is best evidence that the world is getting really silly and scary at the same rate?

1) Iranians arrest 14 squirrels for spying

Islamic Republic’s intelligence agents allege rodents were carrying advanced Western spy gear.

2) Found: the giant lion-eating chimps of the magic forest

3) Robot Air Attack Squadron Bound for Iraq

The airplane is the size of a jet fighter, powered by a turboprop engine, able to fly at 300 mph and reach 50,000 feet. It’s outfitted with infrared, laser and radar targeting, and with a ton and a half of guided bombs and missiles.

The Reaper is loaded, but there’s no one on board. Its pilot, as it bombs targets in Iraq, will sit at a video console 7,000 miles away in Nevada.

4) Joe Pesci says everything that can possibly said with his head on fire.

5) insert your own

Personally I thought item 2 was neither silly nor scary, except perhaps from the conservation perspective. Uhh, I suppose that might be your point… 🙂 Anyway, I’m choosing to look at this discovery as holding out a little hope: it’s easier to conserve something if you know that it exists.

I guess it is scary in a 2001 kind of way… ground nesting apes with no fear of predators… and the Congo in general is pretty scary at the moment. And the headline seemed pretty silly to me (though unexpectedly accurate, all things considered 🙂 )

I seriously recommend playing the Joe Pesci thing, too.

Actually, thinking back on the polls I’ve done, maybe they should have been called “coming across these things in the space of ten minutes has done something weird to my head, help!” instead.
