on alcohol
You know, there are times when I wonder if maybe we would be better off entirely without alcohol.

I think it’s a shame that alcohol is the recreational drug that governments condone. There are so many things out there that don’t turn you into a dangerous , belligerent neanderthal if you overindulge, and that you can be a lot more sure of the dosage you’re taking. Amongst other things.
But you knew I’d say that.
I agree with tatjna. I also agree with the Moose’s idea that we would probably be better off (in terms of less drunken cocks being, well, drunken cocks) without alcohol.
However, since when is a peaceful, orderly world without obnoxious arseholes inherently the best one? I believe in my freedom, I like a drink, and in general terms I’m willing to live with a certain amount of booze-generated unpleasantness out there in order to retain that freedom. This applies to pretty much everything in life, not just alcohol.
At any rate, perhaps we here in NZ wouldn’t have the drinking culture that we have if we didn’t enable moronic drinking behaviour by approving of it as a society, tacitly or otherwise.
Can we try a peaceful, orderly world without obnoxious assholes, and see if we like it?
And yeah, as a tool, alcohol can be an enjoyable, even useful, mode of experiential alteration.
However, I am reminded of the Leary quote from a few posts back: “stupid people use drugs stupidly.”
The post was in response to encountering, and ending up being one of the people calming, a particularly retarded neanderthal scene. It had been a while.
but… but… but… that would mean having to face reality!
There’s plenty of ways to avoid reality without alcohol or other drugs.
