a Moore’s law for solar energy?

Two second good news: a moore’s law of solar energy generation may be emerging. If so, the guts of it is by 2020 solar will be cheaper than coal… and then continue to get cheaper…

(Yet another entry in the utopia vs oblivion stakes.)

That paper looks at solar panel prices back to 1980. That may be the time period for which they have good pricing data, but arguably you could go back to the 1950s. The price of solar power has fallen a couple of hundred times since then and shows no signs of stopping.

    This is a good thing.

The thing that makes me nervous in all the amazing upswinging curves that could change the world in awesome ways, and I include Kurzweil etc in this, is that they assume and require stability for another decade or so; and the other upswinging curves promise a descent into chaos. Strange days.
