    The Nigeria piece misses something critical. Yes, there are historical tensions but why are those boiling over into violence? Why now? And why across the Sahel?

    It comes down to food and food comes down to drought.

    More frequent drought means the population of those regions has to go down and war, as ever, is the most common tool for that.
