China creating its own Christian religion to suit itself.

China will construct a “Chinese Christian theology” suitable for the country, state media reported on Thursday, as both the number of believers and tensions with the authorities are on the rise.

    I’m behind on my ungulate reading! No reason China shouldn’t create a Christianity, as after all that’s what the Romans did. Council of Nicea I think, where the creed was formulated at a conference of many different beliefs as a prerequisite for being adopted by Constantine (if memory serves). That’s why it is said in services, that’s why it sounds so weird– it’s a checklist of resolved doctrinal disputes. And of course christianity has been reformulated again and again to suit new times and situations…

    though i guess it is also interesting to note that the Christian religion either attracts or causes people to be uppity vis a vis authority, where other religions (judaism?) try to get along with the existing power structure.
