Via Business Insider: "As the war over income inequality wages on, super-rich Seattle entrepreneur Nick Hanauer has been raising the hackles of his fellow 1-percenters, espousing the contrarian argument that rich people don't actually create jobs. The position is controversial — so much so that TED is refusing to post a talk that Hanauer gave on the subject. National Journal reports today that TED officials decided not to put Hanauer's March 1 speech up online after deeming his remarks "too politically controversial" for the site...".

It's about bloody time. I remember getting into a very heated discussion during my training as an adult educator (many years ago) because they were teaching oversimplified left-brain/right-brain theory as a means of developing learning and I was all BUT THIS ISN'T HOW IT IS and they were all YES SIT DOWN WITH YOUR RIGHT BRAIN and it was not very much fun at all.

A bit like evo psych really.

Mike: aha, cheers. Your Google-fu is strong. I had not found much more confirming it other than an ancient post on Cannes's site.

Wow, looks like Dau is real (but not finished still).

http://www.ioncinema.com/news/id/5802/top-100-most-anticipated-films-of-2011-ilya-khrzhanovskys-dau

... then some other links saying it was delayed and didn't make Cannes last year, but:

I have heard about Black Mirror, but have no as yet no sound on computer to watch it - will get there though. The porcine episode reminds me of a reality TV show Chris Gilman once suggested called 'Pig in the House'. Say no more, guvnor, say no more...

Nils Gilman is missing the obvious solution - a Dyson sphere lets us capture the entire energy output of the Sun.

If economic growth continues for that long, then the average person will be worth one thousand times the current wealth of the entire world, so being able to afford a Dyson sphere seems easy. Being able to afford several seems feasible.

Of course, the real lesson here is that scaling exponentially leads to silly conclusions.
